G8: Appropriate assessment and safe performance of veterinary surgical procedures Assessing the necessary surgical patient preparation (appropriate to the clinical case); planned surgical techniques for a range of procedures, with appropriate planning and communication of the necessary post-operative management. G9: Appropriate and safe implementation and interpretation of laboratory procedures The selection of appropriate diagnostic tests including obtaining, handling and preserving diagnostic samples safe use of laboratory equipment and accurate interpretation of external and in-house results. G10: Appropriate and safe implementation and interpretation of diagnostic imaging Preparing, obtaining and evaluating diagnostic imaging techniques, in accordance with current health and safety legislation and guidelines. Each unit of study consists of a number of learning outcomes that need to be achieved. The content of each unit of study will vary, depending on whether the graduate is completing the small animal or mixed practice route. The final designation of the award will depend on which specific areas the graduate has been assessed on, e.g. PgDipVetMed (Small Animal) or PgDipVetMed (Mixed).
